flexible engine mounts are generally supplied with studs, which not only secure the engine to the engine mount but also adjust the height of the engine relative to the engine foundation. 
this height adjustment has the disadvantage that, in some cases where the foundation is actually too low, the engine "hangs" much too high on the studs, resulting in unacceptable leverage that makes the entire installation genuinely unsafe. 
in extreme cases, this type of installation error could cause the studs to simply break off. 
Marineparts now supplies shim plates that precisely match the shape of the engine mount feet.
the engine height can be adjusted by increasing the number of shim plates. 
the engine can then be secured using a standard bolt.
