This control unit is connected to a traveler by a continuous line. This control method is very practical. A self-tailing sheave that works in two directions provides excellent grip, even without a load and without wearing out the line. A lever determines the direction in which the traveler is to be moved or the position in which the traveler is to be secured. The power transmission ratio with a standard winch handle (250 mm) is 8:1. This ratio is much better than that which can be achieved with a tackle. In addition, this unit is very small and light. Although the design was originally made for spinnaker pole adjustments, this control unit is increasingly being used for genoa cars and travelers.
